EFTP News:

The last 15th of March, a delegation of EFTPs’ (European Fisheries Technology Platform) Board of Directors met with the European Commissioner for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Ms. Maria Damanaki. The aim of the meeting was to make the EFTP available for the Commissioner and for DG Mare and to show the progress achieved in this organization.

7. Fishing vessel energy consumption at the Port

Scope and objective of this WG

 

An important element for the sustainability of the fisheries sector is the need to reduce the energy consumption throughout the entire value chain in the fisheries, “from the ship to the shop”.

The increased focus on energy consumption is also a vital part of the corporate strategy to cut down expenditures in fishing operations and a part of the policy decision making processes to fulfill international obligations like the Gothenburg protocol and the Kyoto-agreement for reducing pollution.

Fishing vessels are a vital part of the fisheries value chain. Thus, in order to make a significant contribution to the future reduction of the energy consumption, important R&D task must be guided towards the fishing vessels. This is a tentative list of “things to be done”
